Two trips made to Lake Kerkini in July 2024 & May 2025. Most well know as a site for both Dalmatian & White Pelicans, it's only about an hour or so drive north of Thessaloniki and just a few miles south of the Bulgarian border. A fantastic variety of species, scenery great and as an overall experience, probably my favourite overseas place to visit.

Driving was exceptionally busy around Thessaloniki compared to hardly any traffic in the Lake Kerkini area.

Dawn boat trips onto the lake are excellent for photo opportunities and well worth doing. With blue skies and the mountainous backdrop to the lake giving great vistas, it's a top quality area for wildlife and there's always something of interest on offer.
